Carnival Cruise Line responded to a viral video showing a passenger using a fork to scratch their bare foot in a public dining area.
The cruise line addressed the incident on Instagram, emphasizing that "forks are intended for food, not for foot care."
In its message, the company added, "Once we became aware of the situation, our team quickly addressed it with the guest and removed the utensil from service."
Carnival acknowledged that while the clips may seem humorous, "cleanliness and hygiene are no joke to us."
"Our crew works hard every day to maintain high standards across our feet fleet and to ensure all guests enjoy a safe, clean, and comfortable vacation."
The six‑part video series, posted by lucky_charmedcourt, has amassed more than 28 million views and shows the passenger scratching her foot with her hands as white flakes fall to the ground, followed by her using a fork to continue scratching. In the final two clips, the guests who filmed the incident appear to confront the captain with the footage.
Users who saw the video were appalled and quickly took to the comment section to express their reactions.
One wrote, "POV: you can afford a carnival cruise ship trip but not an anti fungus cream and your own scratching tool," while another added, "This why I eat with plastic utensils 😂." A third commenter said, "Dead skin cells just flying in the atmosphere."
According to CruiseHive, the incident appears to have occurred aboard the Carnival Sunrise.
The ship is currently on a five‑day Caribbean sailing, according to CruiseMapper. It departed from Miami on Monday, July 20, with scheduled stops at several ports in the Bahamas.
